Filipino Culture in Filipino Films

So today, my blog is about the culture of Filipinos that can be seen in Filipino films.

First, lets have a brief information about how the history of Filipino Culture.

According to Alojado Publishing International, Philippines has different culture and influences. Majority of these influences were the outcomes of the previous colonization and was borrowed mainly from the cultures of Spain and United States. In spite of perceptible Hispanic and Western Influences, the older Asian aspects of Filipino Culture are seen through the way of life, beliefs and customs of the people.

The film Jose Rizal starring Cesar Montano is a biographical film of the Philippine national Hero Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Realonda. The film doesn't only show the life story of Rizal. It also shows the Filipino Culture at the time it was colonized by the Spaniards. The Filipino language consist of Spanish words like gwapo, eskwela, and many more. Religion was also inherited by Filipinos. Majority of them are Catholics. They also adopted the western culture in terms of dance, music, art and many more. Actually, this is one of my favorite Filipino movie because it really gave me a lot of knowledge about Philippine History.

Isusumbong Kita Sa Tatay Ko is an action-comedy film, starring Fernando Poe Jr. and Judy Ann Santos. Both are the greatest actors and actresses of all times in the Philippines. The story is about a "daddy's girl" turned out to be an adopted child. This movie also shows Filipino Culture. The father will always be the one working while the mother will always be the one left in the house to take care of the children and do household chores. Filipinos were interest in gabbling like in cockfight, card games and billiard. Those were the hobbies of Filipino men before. I love this film because it reminds me of my grandfather because I'm usually beside him before, watching this kind of movies since I was a "lolo's girl" and this are the kinds of films that is being shown in our television before in the province.

Home Along Da Riles is a situational comedy film starring Dolphy Quizon. According to TFC, the story is about a poor family with lots of children, living in a lowly ramshackle house by the railway bears. This film is realistic for me. It shows that even though some Filipinos lives in an unpleasant community, they still manage to have happiness and laughter in their lives and that is true to Filipinos that's why the ad "It's More Fun In Philippines" are being used. The movie also shows that rich Filipinos lives in Mansions and sometimes, they are hard to get along with because of the social class. When I was I kid, I used to watch this movie again and again because I like the drama but then it also makes me laugh. Which I think is a good cycle of the movie.

There are really a lot of Filipino films that shows about the culture of Filipinos but I chose those films that are my favorites. That's all for today, thank you for viewing!
